Investigate all options before switching utility providers, customers told

30 January, 2008

Consumers should look at the "entire marketplace" when seeking to switch energy, insurance or personal finance provider, one expert believes

Tim Wolfenden, head of home services for uSwitch, said that people who did not look at all their options before switching would save money, but may still be missing out on bigger savings.

He added: "Consumers really need to … understand how they can find a better deal – be it on price, or be it on the service or be it on something else that actually better compliments their lifestyle."

Switch gas and electricity suppliers here

Wolfenden went on to say that people also needed to be more willing to switch between deals, products and providers.

Earlier this month consumer group Energywatch reported that around one in six Britons struggles to find the money to heat their homes properly.

It also reported that the six biggest energy suppliers in the UK had increased their prices by up to 15 per cent in 2008.
