Those planning to head overseas on holiday should think twice before purchasing a travel insurance policy online, the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) has warned
Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive for Biba, said those buying via the web may end up spending their money on a policy that doesn't provide the cover they need.
Describing some policies as "very cheap and not very good", he said: "Some of the cover for the products online is incredibly low - very low limits on your money, on your baggage, on your medical expenses, things like that."
He advised that as a result people had to take care when buying policies online and use a broker to ensure the right cover was in place.
Figures from Halifax Travel Insurance produced in November 2006 showed that 2.5 million Britons were planning to leave the country for a holiday over the Christmas period.
