Dual fuel duel for your heating bill is a dead heat

11 October, 2007

Some are calling it a price-war, but the battle between Scottish & Southern and British Gas for your custom is suddenly looking more like an Olympic game of table tennis.

The mantle of Britain's cheapest dual fuel product has passed between Scottish & Southern Price Fix 2008 and British Gas Click Energy 4 five times in the past 12 days. With today's price-cut to Click Energy 4, the British Gas tariff has again become the cheapest product on the market.

Paul Schofield, head of utilities at price-comparison site moneysupermarket.com, said: "With Click Energy 4 now undercutting Price Fix 2008 by 31p, it might be fair to call the duel a dead-heat, but with consumers as the ultimate winners.

"These two products are now over £100 cheaper1 than the average standard tariff for a medium home. With winter approaching, and a change of provider taking about six weeks, now would be a great time to act."

moneysupermarket.com is helping people ditch expensive tariffs by offering £30 cashback to users swapping to a dual fuel tariff through its site. Those not going for dual fuel but changing a provider or tariff will benefit from a single £17.50 payment.
