Engaged couples should take out wedding insurance

1 August, 2007

People who are paying large sums for their nuptials have been advised to take out wedding insurance in case of incident

M&S Money stated that as soon as people parted with a sum of money, they should start to consider insuring their special day to give people peace of mind.

This would cover the costs of having to cancel or rearrange the wedding, as well possible loss or damage of important items such as clothes, rings and the cake.

In addition, the firm said wedding insurance would cover public liability and photographs have to be retaken.

Liz Neild, media relations manager for M&S Money, commented: "Far more venues are insisting on public liability cover.

"The other two reasons as well are the costs of weddings are increasingly going up and the other is just piece of mind."

However, she added that some insurers' policies would not apply to weddings or receptions that were carried out abroad.

According to NFU Mutual, many couples are neglecting their insurance policies after they have got married, as the full value of their wedding gifts could exceed their existing level of cover.
