The rise of single sex holidays

2 May, 2007

Men and women prefer to go it alone when it comes to jetting off abroad, with over three quarters of Brits admitting that they are far more likely to go on holiday with friends of the same sex now than they were five years ago

Women reveal that it’s largely because they feel more comfortable sunbathing with female friends, while men are keen to take a break with the lads but without the other halves, revealing that there are one or two of their mates' girlfriends they just don’t get along with.

Unsuprisingly, stag and hen parties account for a quarter of these all-male or all-female trips. Of the rest, the majority went away to have a proper catch up with their friends on a ‘girlie’ or ‘boys only’ type of holiday that friends of the opposite sex wouldn’t appreciate.

A significant number would rather go it alone, and one in ten Brits say they have travelled independently during the last twelve months.

Londoners go on single sex holidays the most, with those living in Wales and the west of England the least likely after only 14 per cent of these regions said they enjoyed this time of getaway.
