Prenuptial agreements have been thrust into the spotlight where high profile celebrity unions are concerned, so it is interesting to see that levels of online prenuptial agreements are steadily on the rise
Those obtained on the high street can cost up to £1,000, taking a fair old chunk out of the wedding fund, so the online option might indeed be the way to go.
MORE TH>N are currently offering customers free prenup and divorce documents as part of the Family Legal Services extension to home insurance, potentially saving customers thousands of pounds worth of legal fees for as little as £18 extra per year.
Considering that over half of all first marriages are now ending in divorce, you don’t have to be hugely well off for a prenuptial agreement to be a worthwhile undertaking – especially if you are a lot wealthier than your spouse or are expecting a hefty inheritance.
One safe rule to play by if you are unsure is that if you don’t want your financial affairs to be determined by a third party in the event of a divorce, it might be wise to sign your name to a prenup – especially as assets can end up passed down to people you don’t expect, as might happen in the case of a second marriage where your partner’s kids are involved.
