Man’s best friend is slowly pushing the other halves out of the bedroom, as one in three Brits are prepared to admit that the loved one they prefer to snuggle up to is their pet rather than their partner
In addition to this, as many as one in eight pet owners are planning to give their pet a card this Valentines Day, with Southerners holding their pets in the highest regard followed by those in the South West.
As far as the question of long-term commitment is concerned, one in five would choose to share their home with their pet instead of their current partner.
Marketing director at swiftcover.com, Tina Shortle, says: “It seems some people’s pets may be more pampered then their partners this Valentines Day as traditional romance is replaced with spending quality time with our pets.
“Brits are well known for being animal lovers, but preferring to spend time cuddled up with the dog or cat over a partner reveals man’s best friend is the primary object of many people’s affections, with gifts and pampering sessions lavished on their pooches rather than their Valentine.”
