Cheaper energy tariffs unearthed

22 January, 2007

As a result of the unprecedented energy price hikes in 2006, and further bad news at the start of this year that certain fixed rates would be coming to the end of their agreed terms, homeowners haven’t had an easy ride of late

However fool.co.uk has unearthed two tariffs which could be music to the ears of disgruntled consumers, and you may not even have to switch providers to make the most of these cheap deals.

British Gas, whose share of the market stood at 48 per cent in October, have seen their fair share of unhappy customers of late, with some even pinning them as the ringleaders in the debacle, however it could now come to the rescue of gas and electricity customers left high and dry by its rivals.

The well-buried tariffs are the ‘Green Click Energy Paperless Billing Tariff’ and the ‘Click Energy Paperless Billing Tariff,’ and unlike some competitors, British Gas will also allow existing customers to switch over to them from their current tariff.

Head of personal finance at Fool.co.uk, David Kuo commented: “Loyalty can be a wonderful attribute to have, but not if you’re being charged too much for being faithful.

“It is quite extraordinary that British Gas would want to keep their gems hidden away from the public and they will probably not thank us for bringing the cheaper tariffs to the attention of its customers. But consumers need to consider all the options and deserve honest price comparisons in order to make informed choices.”
