BT launches UK's cheapest home and mobile broadband package

BT has launched the UK’s cheapest home and mobile broadband package from just £15.65 a month.

BT Total Broadband customers can now get up to 8Mb wireless broadband at home as well as free 1GB monthly usage on our mobile broadband (ii), with the total costing as little as £308.08 over 18 months. The same deal with Orange, for example, would cost £528.48 and Virgin would charge £435.00, giving BT customers a saving of at least £125.

To get mobile, the BT customer simply plugs the USB modem into their laptop and can be online, in a matter of minutes. In certain areas it will give them internet access at speeds of up to 7.2Mb over the HSDPA network when they are away from home. The USB modem also works over the 3G network, which covers 80 per cent of the UK.

John Petter, managing director of BT’s Consumer division, said: “This is an absolutely fantastic deal, the most complete home and mobile broadband for only 56p a day is a no-brainer. Now you can use broadband wherever you are without worrying about the cost.”

“You can use mobile broadband on the train, in the coffee shop or in the park for all the things you go online for, to look at your e-mails, check the football results, or watch Britain’s Got Talent star, Susan Boyle on YouTube.”

As a rough guide, 1GB enables someone to send 300 e-mails, surf the web for 400 minutes, download one film, 48 photos, and 144 songs. Customers who need more than 1GB a month, can easily top up their usage.

BT Total Broadband customers now have the most complete broadband solution in and out of the home in the UK, including membership of the BT FON network of 400,000 BT FON hotspots around the world, and WiFi minutes at BT Openzone hotspots across the UK and Ireland. Customers will also benefit from BT’s rollout of hotspots at more than 650 Starbucks coffeehouses in the UK and Ireland.

BT’s Connection Manager software allows customers to choose the fastest and cheapest connection wherever they are, choosing between Wi-Fi or mobile.

BT also offers a standalone 1GB prepay USB modem, which at £129.99 for 18 months also undercuts the competition.
